~ Mesa, Arizona - The highly anticipated 12th annual Mesa Marathon is set to take place on Saturday, February 10, 2024. As the #1 ranked marathon in Arizona according to a nationwide poll by RaceRaves, this event is a must for runners looking for an early-season Boston Qualifier.

The race will kick off with a breathtaking sunrise start near the Usery Park mountains and will end at Mesa Riverview Park. With a gradual net elevation loss of over 900 feet, the Mesa Marathon is an ideal winter run for both first-timers and seasoned runners.

However, residents should be aware that there will be major road closures in Mesa from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. To help navigate these closures, the city has created an interactive detour map available at gis.mesaaz.gov/mesamarathon. Roads will reopen as runners clear the course and crews complete clean-up.

For additional assistance with route planning, Mesa's Transportation Department is offering one-on-one support the week before the race (Monday-Thursday) and on race day. Residents can call 480-644-4882 or email barricade@mesaaz.gov to receive customized reroute recommendations from the city's temporary traffic control team.

Valley Metro bus service will also be affected by the marathon, with temporary detours for routes 30, 48, 96, 104, 112, 120, 128, 136, The Fiesta Buzz, and the Downtown Buzz. Commuters are advised to check the Valley Metro app or visit valleymetro.org for more information.

Founded in 2012, the Mesa Marathon offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K race and even a Kids' Fun Run. All races except for the Kids' Fun Run will begin at 6:30 a.m. and share a finish line at Mesa Riverview Park. The Kids' Fun Run will start at 12 p.m. This event is USA Track & Field (USATF) sanctioned and certified, attracting runners from around the world and boasting one of the highest percentages of Boston Qualifiers.
