- Governor Katie Hobbs and Representative Nancy Gutierrez Release Statements on Bill to Protect Services for Arizonans with Developmental Disabilities
Phoenix, AZ ~ In a recent letter addressed to Arizona Department of Education (ADE) Superintendent Tom Horne, Governor Katie Hobbs expressed her concerns over his decision to remove oversight over up to $170 million in taxpayer dollars. This move comes after Horne announced that ADE had a backlog of over 89,000 reimbursement requests and instead of conducting proper oversight, he has proposed a plan to automatically approve the majority of these requests.
Governor Hobbs stated that Arizonans deserve transparency and accountability when it comes to how their taxpayer dollars are being spent. She believes that Horne's new policy will remove important checks on the spending of up to $170 million in Education Savings Accounts (ESA). This could potentially create an environment for fraud, waste, and abuse of public funds.
