Arizona: Governor Katie Hobbs Declares State of Emergency Over Greer Fire

Phoenix, AZ ~ Phoenix, AZ - In response to the devastating Greer Fire, Governor Katie Hobbs has declared a State of Emergency in Apache County. The fire, which has already burned over 15,000 acres of land and caused damage to infrastructure, has also forced evacuations in the area.

Governor Hobbs' declaration will make state resources and funding available to support local efforts in fighting and recovering from the wildfire. She has directed $200,000 from the Governor's Emergency Fund to be allocated to the Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management for this purpose. Additionally, she has ordered that the State of Arizona Emergency Response and Recovery Plan be utilized to coordinate assets and authorized the Director of the Arizona Division of Emergency Management to lead this coordination.

Expressing her concern for those affected by the fire, Governor Hobbs stated, "The Greer Fire has burned thousands of acres of land, destroyed multiple structures, and forced families to leave their homes. My heart is with all of those impacted." She also expressed her gratitude towards the firefighters and first responders who are working tirelessly to keep communities safe.

The Greer Fire started on May 13th in Apache County and quickly spread due to high winds. Currently, over 500 firefighters and supportive personnel are involved in suppression efforts. To enhance coordination between federal, state, and local agencies, the Complex Incident Management Team has taken command of the response.

In addition to state resources, Arizona has also secured Fire Management Assistance Grant funding from FEMA to provide support for first responders on the ground. The governor's declaration aims to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to protect communities from further harm.
