Arizona: Governor Katie Hobbs Legislative Action Update

PHOENIX ~ On March 9, 2023, Arizona Governor Hobbs vetoed SB1305, a bill that would have prohibited instruction on race and ethnicity. In his veto letter to Senate President Warren Petersen, Governor Hobbs stated that it was time to stop utilizing students and teachers in culture wars based on fearmongering and unfounded accusations. He urged the Legislature to focus on the real issues affecting Arizona schools such as underfunded classrooms, a growing educator retention crisis, and school buildings in need of repair and replacement.
