Trending...
Phoenix, AZ ~ Phoenix, AZ - Governor Katie Hobbs is set to embark on a diplomatic and business trade mission to Taiwan on Saturday, March 15. The purpose of the trip is to strengthen the relationship between Taiwan and Arizona and take advantage of the growing momentum in Arizona's high-tech manufacturing industry.

During her visit, Governor Hobbs will meet with Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, as well as executives from TSMC and other cutting-edge tech companies. The goal is to reinforce the mutually beneficial partnership between Taiwan and Arizona and capitalize on the state's success in the semiconductor industry.

In a statement, Governor Hobbs expressed her excitement about Arizona's emergence as America's hub for advanced manufacturing. She highlighted the creation of hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs and billions of dollars in investment as evidence of the state's success. The governor also emphasized her focus on cementing Arizona as America's top market for business and innovation.

Governor Hobbs plans to deliver this message directly to industry leaders in Taiwan during her trip. She believes that by continuing to build upon Arizona's growth in the semiconductor industry and attracting key companies from around the world, such as those involved in AI development, the state will solidify its position as the best place in the world to do business.

Joining Governor Hobbs on this mission is Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. Watson praised Arizona's longstanding partnership with Taiwan, which has been strengthened through collaboration in various areas such as technology, defense, supply chain management, cultural exchange, and workforce development. She expressed enthusiasm for further growing this important relationship through meetings with President Lai Ching-te and other industry partners.

The timing of this trip is significant as it comes just weeks after TSMC announced their plan to invest $100 billion into building three additional semiconductor fabs, two advanced packaging facilities, and an R&D center. This investment is expected to create 40,000 construction jobs over the next four years and tens of thousands of high-paying tech and manufacturing jobs. Governor Hobbs was the first elected official to visit TSMC's Fab 21 in North Phoenix after the start of production of 4 nm chips on US soil.

During her trip, Governor Hobbs will also meet with cutting-edge high-tech companies and AI-industry suppliers. This visit builds upon her success in attracting and expanding high-tech businesses in Arizona, leading the nation in new semiconductor investment and job creation, and securing important federal funding.
