Arizona: Sinema, Kelly, Hobbs Statement on Lukeville POE Closure

Trending...
ARIZONA ~ Arizona is facing a crisis at its border, with over 2,000 migrants crossing the Tucson sector daily. In response, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced the temporary closure of the Lukeville Port of Entry. This closure will redirect all officers from managing everyday travel and trade to helping U.S. Border Patrol process migrants.

In response to this situation, Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly along with Governor Katie Hobbs issued a statement expressing their concern for the safety of their communities and the disruption to trade and tourism that this closure will cause. They called on the Federal Government to act swiftly to maintain port of entry operations, get the border under control, keep Arizona communities safe, and ensure the humane treatment of migrants.
