~ Mesa, Arizona - As April's Valley Bike Month approaches, the city of Mesa is gearing up for three exciting bicycle events that are sure to get residents and visitors alike pedaling their way through the city.
The first event on the calendar is the Arizona Bicycling Summit, taking place on Friday, April 5 at the Mesa Convention Center. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., leaders, educators, planners, public health professionals and cyclists of all kinds will gather to discuss current issues related to cycling in Arizona and plan for the future. Topics such as cycling nonprofits, city infrastructure, and increasing the number of cyclists on the roads will be covered in wide-ranging discussions. The summit also offers exhibits and raffles, with a group ride often concluding the day's events. Tickets for students start at just $10.
Next up is CycloMesa Festival on Saturday, April 6. This free annual festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Plaza at Mesa City Center in downtown Mesa. Festival-goers can expect an action-packed day filled with BMX Freestyle stunt shows, roller derby demos, spin art using pedal power, scavenger hunts, live music performances on the Mesa Music Festival Stage hosted by Alt AZ personality Dustin, rock climbing walls and more. Kids can enjoy special programming including a bike rodeo hosted by Phoenix Children's Hospital and activities like giant inflatables and face painting provided by Mesa Public Library. New activities this year include a photo opportunity on a multi-person bicycle sculpture, testing strength and speed with bicycle sledgehammers, getting a cartoon drawing of yourself on a bicycle and playing mini golf. And for those in need of helmets or other safety gear while supplies last.

The final event of April's Valley Bike Month is Bike to Work Day on Wednesday, April 17 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. This annual event encourages commuters to ditch their cars and bike to work (or anywhere else they need to go) in order to save money, improve health, reduce traffic congestion, and help the environment. This year, the event is open to anyone who lives, works or enjoys spending time in Mesa. Commuters can join a group ride or bike directly to the party at the Plaza at Mesa City Center where the first 300 people to RSVP and check-in will receive a limited-edition T-shirt designed by local artist Kyllan Maney and a voucher for breakfast that morning. All attendees can enjoy music from a local DJ, photo opportunities, and complimentary coffee.
