~ The City of Mesa, Arizona has taken a major step towards reducing emissions and promoting sustainable aviation with the arrival of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its Falcon Field Airport. This new fuel option is a result of a partnership between Avflight Mesa, one of the airport's fixed based operators (FBO), and its sister company Avfuel Corporation.
On August 28th, Avflight Mesa received its first truckload delivery of SAF, specifically Neste MY Sustainable Aviation FuelTM. Each truckload carries approximately 8,000 gallons of the sustainable fuel, which reduces carbon emissions by 19 tons compared to traditional petroleum-based jet fuel. This is equivalent to taking 4.5 passenger vehicles off U.S. roads for an entire year.
This consistent supply of SAF makes Avflight Mesa the first of its 26 FBOs in North America and Europe to offer this eco-friendly option. The introduction of SAF not only elevates Avflight Mesa as a leader in sustainable aviation operations but also positions Falcon Field Airport as a hub for environmentally conscious travel.
Corinne Nystrom, Falcon Field's airport director, expressed her excitement about this development stating, "We're thrilled that Avflight chose Mesa as a launching point for a more sustainable future." She also highlighted how this aligns with the city's Climate Action Plan which aims to protect the environment and natural resources.

Avfuel Corporation, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, has been supplying fuel and services to Avflight Mesa since acquiring the FBO in 2020. The two sister companies have worked closely together to fulfill Avflight Mesa's fuel needs while also supporting their sustainability initiatives.
Aaron Mauer, senior regional manager for Avflight, shared his enthusiasm about offering SAF at their Mesa location saying, "We are incredibly excited to offer SAF at our Mesa location." He also emphasized how this addition aligns with their commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting their customers' sustainability goals.
The use of SAF at Falcon Field Airport directly contributes to Mesa's Climate Action Plan, which includes goals such as achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and adopting renewable energy sources. This move also supports Avflight's network-wide initiative to promote sustainable aviation operations, which includes sustainability certification for its U.S. locations and the installation of electric charging stations in key locations in partnership with BETA Technologies.
With the arrival of SAF at Falcon Field Airport, Mesa is taking a significant step towards a more sustainable future for air travel. This partnership between Avflight Mesa and Avfuel Corporation sets an example for other airports and FBOs to follow in promoting eco-friendly aviation operations.
