Phoenix, AZ ~ Phoenix, AZ - On September 15, 2024, Governor Katie Hobbs joined in the annual "El Grito de Dolores" event at the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. This event, which commemorates the historic call for independence by catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in 1810, marks the end of three centuries of Spanish rule in Mexico.

Mexican Independence Day holds great significance not only for Mexicans but also for Mexican-Americans and those of Mexican descent across the United States. Governor Hobbs' participation in this event highlights her commitment to strengthening the relationship between Arizona and Mexico and recognizing the valuable contributions of Latinos to the state.

In her statement, Governor Hobbs expressed her appreciation for the unique binational relationship with Mexico and stated that it was an honor to be a part of this celebration. During the event, Governor Hobbs delivered remarks and presented two proclamations. The first officially recognized September 16, 2024 as Mexican Independence Day, while the second designated September 15 to October 15, 2024 as Hispanic Heritage Month.
