~ As National Historic Preservation Month approaches, the City of Mesa Historic Preservation Office is gearing up for a special event to celebrate the occasion. On Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents are invited to join in on the festivities at The Post located at 26 N. Macdonald.

The event will feature a variety of activities, including historic tours of downtown Mesa and the West 2nd Street historic district. Attendees will also have the opportunity to witness an awards ceremony honoring the winners of the City's Historic Essay and Visual Arts Contest. The contest was judged separately and awards will be given to first, second, and third place winners in each category for both students and teachers. Additionally, every contestant will receive a certificate of participation.

To add to the celebration, pizza and cupcakes will be available for all attendees. This event is part of a larger effort by the City of Mesa Historic Preservation Office and other government agencies to promote the importance of preserving historic places during National Historic Preservation Month in May.

Mesa takes great pride in its rich history and is home to eight local historic districts and over a dozen landmarks listed on the Mesa Historic Property Register. The City encourages all residents to join in on this free event and celebrate their community's unique heritage.
