~ The City of Mesa has officially kicked off its annual budget process, inviting residents to participate in shaping the community's priorities for the upcoming Fiscal Year 2026/27 budget. City Manager Scott Butler emphasized the importance of community input in this process, stating that it is essential for navigating economic pressures and ensuring the delivery of core services while also investing in the city's future.

To promote transparency, the City will be hosting three community input sessions throughout March. These sessions will provide an overview of the budget process and allow residents to share their feedback on city services and priorities. In addition, budget information and an online feedback form are available on the City's website at mesaaz.gov/budget.

The first session will take place on Tuesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. at the Northeast Public Safety Facility located at 1333 N. Power Road. The second session will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at The Post located at 26 N. Macdonald. The final session will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. at Gateway Library located at 5036 S. Eastmark Parkway.

Starting on April 2, City departments will present their budget proposals to City Council over a period of four weeks, with presentations concluding on April 30. In light of financial pressures caused by the state's elimination of the residential rental tax, departments have been asked to reduce their base budgets by 2% to help balance the budget.

Mayor Mark Freeman expressed confidence in Mesa's strong financial position but stressed the importance of hearing from all residents during this process. He encouraged everyone to attend a session and share their thoughts, whether they agree or disagree with current plans or have new ideas to contribute.

After public input and review by City Council, a tentative budget is scheduled for adoption on May 18, with final adoption planned for June 1. The new budget will go into effect on July 1, 2026. The City of Mesa is committed to involving its residents in the budget process and ensuring that their voices are heard in shaping the future of the community.
