~ Mesa, AZ - As the grand opening of the highly anticipated Gateway Library draws near, the city of Mesa is gearing up for a series of preview events to give residents a taste of what's to come. Located at 5036 S. Eastmark Parkway, the Gateway Library will be Mesa's first new full-service library in over 25 years.
The three preview events, set to take place on Saturdays leading up to the grand opening, will offer a sneak peek at the library's outdoor spaces and provide opportunities for attendees to sign up for a library card. Families can also look forward to storytime and other family-friendly activities from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with storytime scheduled for 10 a.m.
The countdown to the Gateway Preview Schedule is as follows (weather permitting):
In addition, starting on Nov. 17, library staff will be available on-site for library card signups on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during specific hours: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays.

The grand opening event for the Gateway Library is set for Saturday, Dec.6 from 10 a.m.to2p.m. and will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a day of family-friendly activities. Spanning approximately 28,000 square feet, the Gateway Library boasts an open, light-filled design with a multipurpose room, THINKspot collaborative makerspace, digital art display wall, outdoor reading patios, and a community plaza for events.
Funding for the Gateway Library comes from both the 2018 General Obligation Bond approved by voters and construction sales tax revenues. The library was built by Willmeng Construction and designed by Richrd Kennedy Architects, a firm known for its award-winning library designs.

- Saturday, Nov. 15 - The Arizona Museum of Natural History's (AZMNH) Mobile Education and Discovery (MEAD) Machine will bring hands-on science and history lessons to families.
- Saturday, Nov. 22 - The Mesa Fire and Medical Department's mini fire truck, "Ember," will make an appearance. The Mini Engine Company 1898 was built in 2023 to honor the department's 125th anniversary.
- Saturday Nov. 29 - The Mesa Parks and Recreation Mesa Outdoor Recreation Experience (MORE) van will offer educational programs and activities, and Santa is also scheduled to make an appearance.
