~ Mesa, Arizona - The city of Mesa is giving young adults and teens the opportunity to make a real impact on their community's climate goals. Thanks to a generous grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, an additional $85,000 will be awarded to participants between the ages of 15 and 24 for projects that focus on tackling Mesa's climate challenges.
Mayor Mark Freeman expressed his excitement about the program, stating that "the best part of this project is that our next generation leads it." He emphasized the importance of taking care of natural resources and how it is key to everything they do in Mesa. The support from Bloomberg Philanthropies has been crucial in making this program possible, and Mayor Freeman looks forward to working with the next generation of leaders to build a more sustainable future.
Young people who reside or attend school in Mesa are encouraged to apply for up to $5,000 in funding for their projects. These projects should address Mesas Climate Action Goals, which include heat mitigation, water stewardship, clean air, and increasing the city's tree canopy. The priority review deadline for applications is March 28th, with a final deadline of May 23rd.
