~ Falcon Field Airport Launches New Airfield Driver Training Program to Promote Safety and Minimize Incursions

Falcon Field Airport has recently announced the launch of its new Airfield Driver Training Program, aimed at promoting safety for airfield vehicle drivers and reducing runway and taxiway incursions. This initiative is designed to familiarize airport tenants, City employees, and other authorized individuals with the necessary protocols for safely navigating the Air Operations Area (AOA).

According to Corinne Nystrom, Airport Director, this program reflects the airport's commitment to continuous improvement and responsibility to the community it serves. "We are voluntarily aligning with the Federal Aviation Administration's FAR Part 139 safety standards and taking proactive steps to ensure that everyone operating on the airfield is equipped with the knowledge necessary to maintain the highest safety standards," she stated.

The program also includes a 5-minute training video that supports the Fly Friendly voluntary noise abatement initiative. In addition to promoting safety, it aims to address noise-related concerns for surrounding communities and foster a stronger connection between the aviation community and local citizens.

Individuals who are granted access to the AOA through City-issued gate access credentials will be required to complete an internet-based training course. The issuance of access cards will be determined at the sole discretion of the City, only given to those with a legitimate need for AOA access.

Mark Gibbs, Airport Projects and Operations Manager, emphasized that this program is crucial in proactively addressing potential risks such as runway incursions. "It helps ensure that everyone accessing the airfield is well-prepared to operate safely and efficiently," he said. "This is a vital step in preserving Falcon Field Airport's reputation for excellence and safety while reinforcing our dedication to operational integrity."

The program will begin this month, with airport employees being the first group to undergo training. All current and future access badge holders will be required to complete annual training in order to maintain AOA access privileges. It is estimated that approximately 2,000 individuals, including tenants, contractors, and sub-tenants, will participate in the training.
