Mesa Police Department Creates New Way of Reporting Fireworks

~ Mesa Police Department Implements New Anonymous Reporting System for Illegal Fireworks

The Mesa Police Department has taken a proactive approach to combat illegal fireworks in the city by implementing a new reporting system. Starting July 1, 2024, residents can report any illegal firework activity through the City of Mesa website under the "Residents" tab and then "Police." This new system allows individuals to submit a request or create an anonymous request before filing a complaint.

According to the department, this new system aims to make it easier for residents to report illegal fireworks without fear of retaliation. The dedicated email address created for this purpose is monitored by Special Operations lieutenants, sergeants, and the Real Time Crime Center at all hours of the day and night to ensure no complaints are missed.

Once a complaint is verified either by patrol officers or through video monitoring at the Real Time Crime Center, officers will be dispatched to investigate. In addition, a group of Mesa police officers have been assigned specifically to handle firework-related calls on July 4th.

To further enforce firework laws, both the Mesa Police and Fire Departments will continue inspecting pop-up tents that sell fireworks. This effort is part of their commitment to keeping the community safe from potential hazards caused by illegal fireworks.
