~ The Mesa Police Traffic Unit is launching the second phase of Operation Safer Streets in June and July. This selective enforcement detail will focus on driving behaviors that contribute to fatal and serious injury collisions. In 2022, there were 44 fatal collisions in the City of Mesa. Officers will be targeting speeding, distracted driving, unsafe vehicle operations, and pedestrian violations. The enforcement detail will take place at various days and times. The public is encouraged to obey all traffic laws and avoid using electronic devices while driving, slowing down, being aware of other vehicles, motorcycles, and pedestrians entering their pathway, and not driving impaired.
