~ Mesa, AZ - Youth flag football has been a popular sport in Mesa for years, and this year it is expanding even further. The Youth NFL Flag Football League has announced the addition of a new Girls Flag Football League for girls ages 8 to 12, as well as the return of their Flag Football Kinder Clinic for kids ages 5 and 6. Registration is still open for both programs, with the Kinder Clinic accepting registrations until September 20th and the Girls League until September 30th.
According to Augie Perez, Mesa Recreation Coordinator, the decision to introduce a girls league was made in order to provide young girls with the opportunity to learn about the sport and stay active. "Flag football is becoming popular at the high school level and we wanted to extend that opportunity to young girls," said Perez. "We want them to have fun while gaining knowledge about the sport."
This will be the third season that Mesa Parks and Recreation has partnered with NFL Flag Football, and it has been met with positive feedback from both parents and participants. One of the highlights of the program is the reversible replica jerseys that feature NFL team logos on the front.

For those interested in learning more about flag football, the Kinder Clinic offers a basic introduction to the sport while also teaching fundamentals such as teamwork. The co-ed flag football leagues for ages 7-8, 9-10, and 11-14 are already full, but Parks and Recreation staff are working to accommodate those on the waitlist.
Registration fees for both programs are some of the lowest in the east valley at just $90 for Mesa residents and $105 for non-residents per participant in the Girls Football League, and $75 for Mesa residents and $90 for non-residents per participant in the Kinder Clinic. The City also offers scholarships and discounts up to 50% off registration fees.
Participants can expect a well-organized program with dedicated city staff, background checked and trained coaches through the Positive Coaching Alliance partnership, and access to a Team Sideline site featuring league standings, schedules, and contact information.
One parent raved about the program, calling it "the most organized league we've played in." Registration is currently open on mesaparks.com or by contacting mesayouthsports@mesaaz.gov. Don't miss out on the opportunity to be a part of this exciting and well-run flag football program in Mesa. See you on the field!
