~ Mesa, AZ- As the holiday season approaches, residents of Mesa can now look forward to a new and exciting way to celebrate. The city has announced the opening of Merry Main Street, a six-week long festival that will kick off on Friday, November 28th. This year's festivities will include the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink, which will be open daily until January 10th.
Located in downtown Mesa at the Plaza at Mesa City Center, the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink offers a unique opportunity for residents to skate under the stars and enjoy the city's beautiful winter weather. With a surface area of 6,005 square feet, this ice rink is sure to provide hours of fun for all who visit. Tickets for non-Mesa residents will go on sale on November 10th at 8 a.m. and can be purchased online in advance.
For just $11 per person, visitors can enjoy a one-hour skating session that includes skate rental. To ensure their spot on the ice, it is recommended that tickets be purchased online in advance as there is limited availability for walk-up tickets at the rink. Merry Main Street is not just about ice skating though; it is a celebration of the holiday season in Mesa. The festival will kick off with Santa's arrival and the lighting of a four-story Christmas tree on Main Street and Macdonald at 5:45 p.m. on November 28th. Throughout the festival, there will be live music performances, visits with Santa Claus, Friday night movies at the Plaza at Mesa City Center, and much more for families to enjoy.
Most events at Merry Main Street are free and open to all ages. For more information about specific events and activities during the festival, visit merrymainst.com.
The Winter Wonderland Ice Rink and Merry Main Street will be open on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on weekends from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Special holiday hours will be in effect from December 22nd to January 2nd, with the ice rink opening at 12 p.m. on weekdays as well. On Christmas Eve, the rink will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., but it will be closed on Christmas Day.

Merry Main Street is a collaborative effort between the City of Mesa, Mesa Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Downtown Mesa Association, Visit Mesa, Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Prensa Arizona, Benedictine University, Google Fiber, Nesbitt Contracting, Sysco and VCA Animal Referral & Emergency Center of Arizona.
The success of Merry Main Street has not gone unnoticed by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA). The city of Mesa was recently awarded the Outstanding Special Event Award for cities with populations over 100,000 for their efforts in organizing this festival since its inception in 2015.
