Get your cameras ready! The City of Mesa's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program announces the first Move Safe Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest. Starting September 30th Mesa students (and homeschoolers!) ages 12-18 are invited to create a 30-second to 1-minute public service announcement that features a safety tip to use when walking or riding. The competition is aimed to encourage everyone to get moving and to be active while being safe.
The contest is in partnership with Harkins Theatres, Phoenix Film Festival Foundation, and the newly opened ASU Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center. Prizes will be awarded to the creators of the winning PSA videos. The winning PSA will be shown in select Harkins Theatres during the months of April and May in 2023. The Grand Prize winner (1) will also receive a private screening and tour of ASU MIX Center, a prize package from Phoenix Film Festival, a prize package from Harkins Theatres and a bicycle from the City of Mesa's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program. In addition, the runners-up (2) will each receive a prize package from Harkins Theatres, free submission to the 2024 Arizona Student Film Festival and a gift bag from the City of Mesa's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program.

"This is the first year we will be hosting the Move Safe PSA Contest and we hope to make it an annual event. It's a great way for students to get creative and inspire others to be excited about practicing bicycle and pedestrian safety," says City of Mesa's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Supervisor, Sabine King.
Interested in submitting an entry? The deadline to submit is January 31, 2023. Judging will take place in February 2023 and the winners will be announced at the end of March 2023 in time to celebrate Arizona's Valley Bike Month in April.
