PHOENIX ~ University of Phoenix Vice Provost Receives Prestigious AACRAO Award

The University of Phoenix is pleased to announce that Dr. Marc Booker, the vice provost of strategy, has been selected as the recipient of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) Thomas A. Bilger Award for 2024. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated consistent vision, service, and leadership within AACRAO and have contributed seven or more years of volunteer service.

Dr. Booker will be honored at the 2024 AACRAO Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio on April 7-10. He expressed his gratitude for this recognition, stating that it is an enormous honor to receive the Thomas A. Bilger Award from such a fantastic organization. He also acknowledged AACRAO's role in fostering talent and leading institutions towards a more innovative and student-centric future.

AACRAO is a non-profit, voluntary professional association that works towards making higher education more responsive to learners. With a membership of nearly 14,000 higher education professionals from over 40 countries, the association provides advocacy, research, and policy-based guidance and training to support learners at every stage of their educational journey.

According to AACRAO, the Thomas A. Bilger Award is given to individuals who have shown foresight in recognizing the needs of the field and have contributed through their service in a leadership position. Dr. Booker has been a longstanding member of AACRAO for 15 years and currently serves as Chair for its Transfer and Articulation committee, co-lead for its upcoming Transfer and Technology summit, and holds the role of Parliamentarian.

In addition to his volunteer work with AACRAO, Dr. Booker has also supported the association as a regular speaker and author for over a decade. Most recently, he developed AACRAO's Transfer Articulation 101 online course.

Melanie Gottlieb, AACRAO's Executive Director, expressed her delight in recognizing Dr. Booker's exceptional leadership by awarding him the 2024 AACRAO Thomas A. Bilger Award. She commended his contributions to the association and the field of higher education.

As Vice Provost for Strategy at the University of Phoenix, Dr. Booker oversees critical academic initiatives to improve the student experience, such as implementing learning platforms, enhancing curricula, and developing empathetic solutions to drive improved student outcomes through data. He has also received several awards for his work, including the 2024 UPCEA Operational Excellence Award and being part of a leadership team that won the Catalyst Award for Teaching & Learning in 2023. In 2020, he was also recognized with a Hall of Fame award from Blackboard.

Dr. Booker has been an employee of the University of Phoenix since 2001 and previously served as vice president of Admissions and Evaluation. During his tenure, his office received three Showcase in Excellence Awards from the Southwest Alliance for Excellence for their processes related to admissions applications, transcripts, and prior learning assessments.
