GLENDALE, Ariz., March 4, 2025 ~ On February 25th at 10 a.m., the Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) officially broke ground on its highly anticipated Southeast Campus. The ceremony took place at the intersection of W. 93rd Ave. and Osborn Road, where West-MEC leadership and stakeholders gathered to celebrate the beginning of construction.
The new Southeast Campus, which is set to be built on a 30-acre plot just off the Loop 101 freeway, will be West-MEC's fifth campus. It will also mark the fourth collaboration between West-MEC and its design partner, DLR Group.
"We are proud to announce the construction of our largest campus near the dynamic medical corridor at 101 and Thomas," stated West-MEC Superintendent Dr. Scott Spurgeon. "Designed to address the West Valley's evolving workforce needs, this innovative facility reflects insights from partnerships with industry leaders like Amazon, Amkor, Gatorade, Nestle, and TSMC. These collaborations have shaped programs that equip students with the skills to excel in high-demand careers."
The first phase of this multi-phased project will feature 50,000 square feet of educational space and is expected to be completed by summer 2026. The campus will offer several Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways including medical assisting, physical therapy, IT security, advanced manufacturing, and welding.

DLR Group Principal and Architect Matt Brehmer expressed his excitement for this project stating, "This project will build on the remarkable growth in this area of the Phoenix metro, bringing substantial benefits to Arizona's workforce. The future is bright and brimming with exciting opportunities for students and industry in the West Valley of Maricopa County."
Construction services for this project will be led by CHASSE Building Team. Throughout the project, West-MEC and its industry partners will work closely with CBT and DLR Group to ensure that the built environment aligns with the established facilities plan and vision for the new campus.
Barry Chasse, president of CHASSE Building Team, also shared his enthusiasm for this project, stating, "West-MEC has been a wonderful partner, advocating for a forward-thinking design that fosters openness and collaboration among students and educators. A great example of this is the use of glass-partitioned walls, which not only encourage interaction and transparency but also create a dynamic, modern learning environment. We are proud to help bring this vision to life."
The Southeast Campus is expected to have a significant impact on Arizona's workforce and economy. With its strategic location near the medical corridor and partnerships with industry leaders, West-MEC is poised to provide students with the skills they need to excel in high-demand careers. This groundbreaking ceremony marks an exciting new chapter for West-MEC and its commitment to preparing students for success in the ever-evolving job market.
