~ Mesa will mark the opening of Fire Station 224 on Saturday, Nov. 7, with a fire hose uncoupling ceremony at 1 p.m. and a public open house from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

The station is at 3441 S. 80th St., north of Elliot Road. The $12.3 million facility was funded through the 2022 Public Safety Bond, approved by Mesa voters.

Mayor Mark Freeman said the station fulfills a commitment made through the bond measure. Vice Mayor and District 6 Councilmember Scott Somers said it will help provide emergency response resources close to home as southeast Mesa grows.

The station includes three drive-through apparatus bays, sleeping quarters, offices, a kitchen, a dining room, and fitness and training areas. It is designed to accommodate additional emergency response units as the community grows and will initially house Engine 224, a four-person unit.

Mesa Fire and Medical Chief Mary Cameli said the station will expand coverage and improve response times. She also thanked voters for supporting the project.

Fire Station 224 is among several station projects planned or underway, according to the city. Reconstruction of Fire Station 205 at 730 S. Greenfield Road is scheduled for completion in spring 2027. Construction of Fire Station 223, near 32nd Street and McDowell Road, is expected to begin this winter.
