Mesa: North Town Documentary To Be Screened at Red Mountain Library

In honor of Black History Month, local filmmaker Bruce Nelson will screen his documentary "North Town: Heritage of a Black Community" at Red Mountain Library, 635 N. Power Road, on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. "North Town" explores the once-segregated Black community in Mesa now known as Washington-Escobedo, a Heritage neighborhood. The film introduces the audience to residents from the past and present. Their stories include the national Civil Rights Movement, professional sports, activism, politics, churches and experiences of racism.

Bruce Nelson is an Award-winning filmmaker, exhibition curator and author. Nelson's work reflects his experiences growing up in the Washington-Escobedo neighborhood.
